Hi, I’m Woody.
Many people ask me: “How did you end up doing sourcing in foreign trade?”
To be honest, there was never a grand plan — it just feels like life nudged me forward step by step.
I majored in International Trade at university. While the textbooks were full of theories, what truly opened my eyes were the internships and part-time jobs I did with factories in Shaoxing, a city known for textiles and small commodities. That’s where I first realized that an “order” isn’t just a word in a book — it’s something real, produced by workers, worried over by factory owners, and anticipated by clients thousands of miles away.
In my junior year, I took a leap and went to southern Texas for half a year. I ended up staying with a Mexican family, and the host mom — warm, generous, and endlessly patient — treated me like her own. I still call her my godmother to this day. Later, when their family opened a small store, I helped ship some goods to them after I returned to China. That was probably my first “foreign trade deal” — even though I didn’t realize it back then.
After graduation, I traveled around Southeast Asia to explore how people did business in different countries. When I returned home, I joined AliExpress under Alibaba Group, working on merchant recruitment. Later, I moved to a manufacturer doing domestic business and was in charge of expanding their export operations.
Over time, I got to know different types of factories, products, and clients. I helped customize packaging, source new items, arrange shipments — and I gradually found myself enjoying this “matchmaking” role.
I’m not a big company, and I don’t have powerful connections. I’m just someone who works seriously and tries my best with every order.
Sadly, some dishonest people have damaged the reputation of Chinese suppliers in international trade. That’s part of the reason I’m doing this — because I believe buyers are looking for someone reliable, someone who speaks human, someone who understands how factories work. I just happen to be that kind of person.
